Job summary

Academics are seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant for a supportive primary school in Chester. This temporary post offers potential for long-term extension and requires full-time commitment to support one pupil with additional needs.

The role focuses on helping the pupil access learning, develop confidence and feel included, with responsibilities including 1:1 support, adapting activities, promoting independence, managing transitions, and safeguarding.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting a pupil with SEND.
• Experience working on a 1:1 basis is desirable.
• Calm, patient and consistent approach is essential.
• Excellent communication skills are required.
• Strong safeguarding and inclusion understanding is important.
• A Level 2 TA qualification or equivalent is desirable, but relevant experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
• Adapt activities to meet individual needs.
• Encourage independence and confidence.
• Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
• Assist with transitions and changes to routine.
• Help the pupil access the wider curriculum.
• Build a trusting and positive relationship with the pupil.
