Job summary

Ilmington C of E Primary School is seeking a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support a child with SEN, both in class and during lessons, with EHCP interventions. The role involves teamwork with the teacher, SENDCo, and families to monitor progress and promote independence.

The successful candidate will have LSA/TA qualifications, experience with autism/PDA, and a commitment to safeguarding. The post is fixed-term, term-time plus one-week, with a probation period of six months.

Fixed Term Contact – Term Time Only + One Week

Salary – Salary Band Scale F (£27,274 pro rata, depending on experience)

Working Hours – 20 hours per week: Monday to Friday 8.30am – 12.30pm

Start Date – 2nd November 2026 or soon after

About Us & The Role

Ilmington C of E Primary School, a small rural primary school with 112 children, is seeking to recruit a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to work as part of our hardworking and experienced team. The successful applicant should have an interest in supporting teaching and learning and be able to provide support to a specific child with special educational needs (SEN) both within the classroom and during, or out of, lessons.

The role will involve:

• Provide structure and routine to child’s learning environment
• Helping to implement an EHCP by delivering interventions, monitoring progress, and maintaining accurate, up-to-date records regarding the child’s progress towards EHCP goals
• Adapting classroom materials, clarifying instructions, and supporting the child with learning tasks, breaking down work to ensure understanding
• Encouraging positive interactions with peers, and helping with emotional regulation
• Promoting independence, self-confidence, and self-help skills, avoiding over-dependence on the LSA
• Working closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, parents/carers, and external professionals (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists)
• Ensuring the child is safe at all times
• Regularly communicating with parents regarding the outcomes of the day

Key Requirements

• The applicant will ideally have an LSA (TA) qualification
• Experience of working with children
• Experience of working with additional educational needs preferred specifically with autism and PDA
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of behaviour and motivating children to learn
• Confidence providing support utilising good literacy and numeracy skills
• An ability to be fair, apply equal opportunities at all times and understand the importance of confidentially

The successful applicant is subject to a six-month probationary period. The position is subject to the EHCP remaining in place.
