Job summary

Teaching Personnel in York (YO1) is seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEN Tutor to provide tailored educational support during weekday school hours. You will work with learners with SEN to build confidence, re-engage with learning, and achieve academic goals.

Requirements include a minimum of 1 year UK teaching or tutoring experience, familiarity with the UK curriculum, ability to differentiate, excellent communication, and an enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate 1:1 SEN Tutor to provide tailored educational support to learners in the YO1 area of York. This rewarding role involves delivering personalised tuition during weekday school hours, supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to build confidence, re‑engage with learning, and achieve their academic goals.

  • Deliver engaging 1:1 tuition sessions tailored to individual learning needs.
  • Support students in core subjects, including English, Maths, and other curriculum areas where required.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet a range of SEN needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and other learning difficulties.
  • Plan and deliver personalised lessons that promote engagement and progress.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records.
  • Build positive and supportive relationships with students, families, and relevant professionals.
  • Encourage student confidence, independence, and a positive attitude towards learning.
  • Minimum 1 year of teaching or tutoring experience within the UK.
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN.
  • Strong understanding of the UK curriculum.
  • Ability to deliver personalised and differentiated learning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE, or relevant teaching/tutoring qualification.
  • Experience supporting students with SEND, SEMH, or those out of mainstream education.
  • Previous experience delivering 1:1 tuition.
  • Knowledge of EHCPs and targeted intervention strategies.
  • Flexible part-time hours during school hours on weekdays.
