Job summary

Horizon Teachers is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil in a welcoming primary school in Kingston upon Thames on a long-term basis. The role emphasizes safeguarding, pupil welfare, and collaborative work with the SENCO and classroom staff.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience with children, especially those with SEN (ASC/ADHD) and strong communication skills to foster independence and positive learning progress.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children, ideally in a primary school setting.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEN, autism (ASC), ADHD or other additional needs (desirable).
• Patient, empathetic, calm, and proactive.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Reliable, adaptable and passionate about helping children reach their full potential.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil throughout the school day.
• Support the pupil with classroom activities, learning tasks and daily routines.
• Assist the class teacher in adapting learning activities to meet the pupil's individual needs.
• Promote positive behaviour, engagement, and independence.
• Support the pupil's communication, social interaction, and emotional development.
• Implement strategies recommended by the SENCO and other relevant professionals.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to the class teacher.
• Help create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and always school policies.
