Job summary

The Downs Malvern is seeking a 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Lower KS3 pupil with an EHCP and Developmental Language Disorder. You will assist in lessons and everyday school life, helping the pupil build confidence, wellbeing and communication skills within a supportive team.

You will collaborate with the SENDCo, Deputy Head Academic, staff, parents and external professionals to provide appropriate educational and pastoral support. This is a part-time, temporary role with term-time hours.

Qualifications

• Education to A Level standard or above.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• A calm, patient and adaptable approach, with emotional resilience.
• An understanding that every child is unique, and a focus on individual strengths.
• The ability to work well in a team and build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents.
• Strong organisation and the ability to manage your own responsibilities.
• Experience working with pupils with additional learning needs.
• Experience providing 1:1 support to children in KS1, KS2 or KS3.
• A Teaching Assistant, SEND or teaching qualification.

Responsibilities

• Giving individual support in lessons and throughout the school day.
• Reassuring and encouraging a pupil who has previously experienced school refusal.
• Working with teaching staff to put support strategies and adaptations in place.
• Monitoring, recording and reporting on progress, development and attainment.
• Attending meetings with parents and professionals when needed.
• Contributing to safeguarding, wellbeing and the wider support network around the pupil.
• Taking part in training, INSET and school meetings.
