Job summary

TLTP Education is seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant to support a non-verbal pupil with high-functioning autism in a Tower Hamlets school. This 1:1 role focuses on learning, communication and daily routines, requiring calm, proactive support and collaboration with the SEN team.

The ideal candidate will be experienced with PECS and Makaton and comfortable providing personal care. This is a long-term opportunity with immediate start and school-hour duties.

Qualifications

• Experience providing 1:1 support for a child with autism in primary or special settings.
• Confident use of PECS and Makaton for non-verbal communication.
• Ability to provide personal care with sensitivity.
• Patient, proactive and observant with strong collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support tailored to the pupil's needs.
• Use PECS, Makaton and visual strategies to assist communication.
• Support personal care and daily routines with sensitivity and respect.
• Help the pupil engage with learning activities and classroom tasks.
• Promote independence and positive social interaction.
• Recognise when extra reassurance is needed and adjust support.
