Job summary

ThoughtLabs Belgium seeks a Senior System Engineering Specialist to oversee, design, and troubleshoot large-scale IT infrastructure, virtualization, storage, and enterprise environments. The role also supports OpenShift-based DevOps, automation, monitoring, security, and ServiceNow integrations.

Requires a Master’s degree with 9+ years of experience, EU SECRET clearance or eligibility, plus hands-on expertise in VMware vSphere/vSAN, OpenShift, PKI, AD/LDAP, and monitoring stacks.

Responsibilities

Job Description

We are looking for a Senior System Engineering Specialist to manage, design, administer, and troubleshoot complex IT infrastructure, virtualisation platforms, storage systems, backup solutions, and enterprise environments. The candidate will also support OpenShift-based DevOps platforms, automation, monitoring, security, and ServiceNow integrations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, administer, and troubleshoot large-scale server infrastructure, virtualisation environments, and complex IT platforms.
• Manage VMware vSphere, vSAN, and Horizon environments.
• Administer Linux/Red Hat, Windows, UNIX, Oracle infrastructure, and enterprise server hardware.
• Configure and maintain backup and recovery solutions, including Veeam and StoreOnce.
• Administer storage systems, including traditional SAN, Ceph, vSAN, and NAS.
• Manage OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) and supporting DevOps technologies.
• Develop, execute, and troubleshoot automation scripts using Ansible and PowerShell.
• Manage GitOps, Helm, GitHub, Kafka, Red Hat Service Mesh, and Ansible Automation Platform.
• Administer PKI, certificates, Active Directory, LDAP, and Keycloak.
• Maintain monitoring and observability systems, including Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, Splunk, ELK stack, Fluentd, Kibana, and Jaeger.
• Support mail servers, Postfix mail relays, antivirus, and anti-spam systems.
• Manage software deployment, updates, compliance, and centralised configuration.
• Develop and maintain ServiceNow integrations using REST, SOAP, JDBC, and other protocols.
• Support ServiceNow ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, and CMDB modules.
• Conduct integration testing using ServiceNow Automated Test Framework (ATF).
• Troubleshoot production issues and support highly available, multi-site IT environments.

Required Technical Skills

• Infrastructure: Hardware management, server administration, blade systems, composable infrastructure, firmware upgrades, and hardware/software inventory.
• Virtualisation: VMware vSphere, vSAN, and Horizon.
• Operating Systems: Red Hat/Linux, Windows, and UNIX administration.
• Storage & Backup: SAN, NAS, Ceph, Veeam, StoreOnce, and distributed file systems.
• Cloud & DevOps: OpenShift (OCP), GitOps, Helm, GitHub, Kafka, Red Hat Service Mesh, and Ansible Automation Platform.
• Identity & Security: Active Directory, LDAP, Keycloak, PKI, certificates, and centralised security policies.
• Monitoring: Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Fluentd, Kibana, Jaeger, Nagios, and Splunk.
• ServiceNow: ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, CMDB, REST/SOAP integrations, GlideRecord, GlideAjax, OAuth, and data transformation.
• Databases: Basic knowledge of MS SQL, Oracle, and Elasticsearch.
• IT Service Management: ITIL/ITIL V3, including incident, change, capacity, and configuration management.

Additional Requirements

• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience managing highly available environments and supporting multiple sites.
• Strong stakeholder communication and the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Experience with on-premises ServiceNow implementations is an advantage.
• ServiceNow Administrator, Implementer, or Developer certifications are a plus

Security Requirements

The selected candidate must possess EU SECRET personnel security clearance or follow the specified clearance initiation procedure. If clearance is not already held, the client requires a recent criminal record certificate (not older than 30 days from the specific contract signature), proof that the clearance process has been initiated, and a copy of the candidate's national ID or passport before work starts. Confidentiality, information-system protection, and non-conflict-of-interest declarations must also be signed.

This role combines senior infrastructure and systems engineering with additional ServiceNow development and integration responsibilities. Candidates should be screened for both areas before submission.
