Job summary

Betclic Group in Bordeaux invites a curious GenAI Research Intern to join our GenAI Center of Excellence. You will explore clustering and embeddings, evaluate steerable representations, and report findings to the team and business stakeholders.

You will work under experienced architects, running controlled experiments, writing research notes, and presenting outcomes. This 6-month internship starts February 2027, based in Bordeaux, with exposure to real-world data and a fast-paced tech

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Master’s degree (or equivalent, final year) in ML, Data Science, NLP, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
• Strong analytical skills, scientific rigour, autonomous, focused on understanding why works.
• Proficient in Python and experienced with LLMs, prompting, tool calling, and AI coding assistants.

Responsibilities

• Map the state of the art in LLM-assisted clustering and steerable embeddings.
• Design an evaluation protocol with reference corpora, metrics, and LLM-as-judge.
• Run controlled experiments comparing clustering pipelines, embeddings and orientation techniques.
• Write protocols and conclusions as research notes and present to team and stakeholders.

ENTER THE GAME

We are looking for curious and rigorous minds to push the boundaries of Generative AI at Betclic.

Our GenAI Center of Excellence builds and runs generative‑AI applications for the whole group. Among them is a semantic‑analysis platform that turns millions of raw texts (customer conversations, support tickets, news) into clear, actionable themes for several business teams.

The method behind it is the one the AI labs use on their own data. Anthropic’s Clio makes sense of millions of conversations with Claude without anyone reading them; GitHub and Google Research have published the same recipe: embed the texts, cluster them, let an LLM name what emerges. Each runs it on its own data; almost nobody applies it to everyday business text. We do.

You will join the GenAI Center of Excellence in Bordeaux, working with GenAI solution architects and will be exposed to business teams expressing analysis needs.

YOUR ROLE WITHIN BETCLIC

As a GenAI Research Intern at Betclic, you will work on a question this field has not answered yet. Today, these systems group texts by what they are about. Grouping them by an angle you choose (tone of voice, urgency, intent) means paying an LLM to rewrite every document first. Can the representation itself be oriented, so that steering costs almost nothing? And before that: how do you prove that one clustering is better than another?

Your missions will include:

• Mapping the state of the art in LLM‑assisted clustering, steerable embeddings and clustering evaluation.
• Designing an evaluation protocol (reference corpora, metrics, LLM‑as‑a‑judge) and measuring how far it can be trusted.
• Running controlled experiments that compare clustering pipelines, embedding models and orientation techniques, on real corpora as well as public benchmarks.
• Writing up your protocols and conclusions as research notes, and presenting them to the team and to business stakeholders.

This internship will give you hands‑on experience of the methods the AI labs use on their own data, and a research question you own end to end, from hypothesis to conclusion.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for curious, passionate and collaborative people who enjoy solving problems and working in a dynamic environment. This internship is for you if you:

• Are currently enrolled in a Master’s degree (or equivalent, final year) in Machine Learning, Data Science, NLP, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
• Have strong analytical skills and scientific rigour, are autonomous, and care more about why something works than about making it work once.
• Are proficient in Pythonand at ease building with LLMs and agents: LLM APIs, prompting, tool calling, and AI coding assistants as part of your daily workflow.
• Want to grow your skills in communicating experimental results clearly, including what they do not prove.
• Work comfortably in English or French.

Nice to have

• Previous exposure to embeddings, clustering or topic modelling (e.g. sentence-transformers, UMAP, HDBSCAN, BERTopic), or to LLM APIs.
• A first research experience: a lab internship, a paper, or a habit of reproducible experiments.
• An interest in sports or gaming industries is appreciated, but not required.

WHAT ARE THE RECRUITMENT STEPS?

If your application is shortlisted, Maxime will contact you within a week for an initial HR screening (30 minutes). Then, you will complete the AssessFirst test (personality, motivation and cognitive reasoning).

Next, you will meet your future manager. Finally, Maxime will conduct a final HR interview to review your AssessFirst results together.

The recruitment process usually takes between 4 to 6 weeks to ensure an optimal experience for you.
