Job summary

The Hartford is looking for an experienced Energy Casualty Underwriter to underwrite and price new business, service brokerage partners, and manage a focused account book. You will mentor junior underwriters and lead strategic agency management initiatives in a hybrid work setting.

The role emphasizes building strong client relationships, pursuing sales opportunities, and ensuring high-quality service delivery while applying analytical problem-solving and a proactive, entrepreneurial approach.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial underwriting experience; experience underwriting energy casualty operations (upstream & midstream oil & gas, renewables and/or mining) preferred
• Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with internal and external partners
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
• Ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions
• High energy self-starter, resilient with an entrepreneurial spirit
• Solid time, organizational and desk management skills
• Goal-oriented and delivers outcomes
• Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win
• Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making and analytical skills

Responsibilities

• Agency Management: Creates, drives and executes on strategies for new and renewal accounts; manages the book of business with a focus on pricing and terms; coaches and mentors others on Agency Management; serves as trusted advisor to agents and brokers.
• Sales: Establishes and maintains pipeline; manages cross-sell and up-sell opportunities; coaches and mentors on sales practices; understands The Hartford's value proposition.
• Service: Advises agents on coverage, directs resources, and coordinates service issues; provides feedback to service leaders.
