Job summary

Proton is hiring a Backend Engineer to build and maintain core services for 100+ million users. You will design scalable APIs, optimize performance, and collaborate with Product, Design, and APIs teams to deliver robust, secure software. Emphasis on cryptography, RESTful interfaces, and open-source practices.

The role involves working with PHP/Symfony-inspired backend, React frontend, Kotlin/Swift mobile stacks, and a growing Rust codebase, with on-prem data-centers and Kubernetes infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with back-end development.
• Experience building scalable, high-performance solutions.
• Strong understanding of HTTP/REST and web APIs.

Responsibilities

• Develop Proton’s core backend services serving 100M+ users.
• Define powerful APIs for multi-product use with high velocity and minimal integration issues.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, APIs and cross-functional teams to deliver robust systems.
