Proton is seeking a Backend Engineer to build and scale Proton's core services, serving over 100 million users worldwide. You will translate complex technical challenges into reliable, fast APIs and collaborate with Product, Design, APIs, and your team to deliver measurable value.

You should have proven back-end development experience, SQL (MySQL), Redis, Docker, security best practices, and HTTP/REST expertise.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with back-end development
• Expertise in building scalable, high-performance solutions
• Proficiency with profiling techniques and performance optimization tools
• Experience leading a team initiative from discovery to production
• Strong understanding of SQL (MySQL preferred) and data modeling
• Familiarity with Redis or other caching technologies
• Knowledge of security best practices and secure software
• In-depth understanding of HTTP/REST APIs
• Cryptographic concepts including key exchange and symmetric/asymmetric encryption
• Operational experience such as SRE or on-call
• Experience with Docker or similar containerization
• Experience with Grafana/OpenTelemetry
• Experience with Python and/or Rust
• Experience with OpenAPI or API documentation frameworks
