Job summary

Mendo.ai in Paris is seeking an experienced AI Engineer to own the AI roadmap, set engineering standards across squads, and build and operate proprietary language models—including on‑device options. You’ll train, evaluate, and monitor AI features in production, mentor teammates, and help define the cost/quality trade‑offs with the product and engineering leadership.

Based in Paris, you’ll enjoy a hybrid schedule (2 days on-site, 3 days remote) and a compensation package of €75k–€85k gross plus

Qualifications

• 6+ years in ML/AI engineering, shipping and operating AI models in production.
• Proven technical leadership: set standards, architecture decisions, mentoring.
• Hands-on with LLM fine-tuning, RAG, and embeddings.
• Experience monitoring AI systems for cost, latency and quality.
• Strong software fundamentals: tests, CI, observability.
• Proficient in Python and TypeScript.
• Experience with small language models and on-device deployment.

Responsibilities

• Own the AI roadmap and prioritize initiatives with product and engineering leadership.
• Set evaluation standards (golden sets, regression tests) and ensure squad compliance.
• Train, fine-tune, and operate proprietary language models, including on-device variants.
• Mentor the AI engineer and help grow the practice and hiring.
