Job summary

Amazon Web Services is seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer, Real-Time to develop deterministic real-time firmware for PWM generation, power-conversion control, diagnostics and protection on DSP/FPGA platforms. This role requires bare-metal/C/C++ software with FreeRTOS and adherence to strict timing budgets.

You will debug real-time interactions with hardware and control systems, support HW-in-the-loop validation, and collaborate with hardware and software teams to ensure safe, reliable power

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience with real-time firmware in power electronics or related high-performance systems.
• Experience with PWM, DSP/FPGA interfaces and deterministic timing.
• Experience documenting design decisions, assumptions, trade-offs, risks and technical specifications.
• Experience using engineering analysis and measured evidence to drive decisions.

Responsibilities

• Develop bare-metal and/or FreeRTOS firmware in C/C++.
• Implement real-time PWM and power-conversion control drivers on DSP/FPGA platforms.
• Implement deterministic interfaces to sensors, control algorithms and hardware protection.
• Develop embedded diagnostics and monitoring functions.
• Implement fault detection and fault-state handling in coordination with functional-safety requirements.
• Support watchdog and system-health mechanisms for embedded software.
• Bring up firmware on prototype hardware.
• Debug real-time interactions between firmware, FPGA, control algorithms and power electronics.
• Support hardware-in-the-loop and system-level validation.
• Implement deterministic state-machine, protection, overload, fault recovery and power-sharing functions.
• Support fast response to LVDC disturbances and coordinated ESS behavior during MVAC ride-through events.
• Develop robust firmware for power-conversion control systems and validate through hardware-in-the-loop testing.
