Rogers Public Library is seeking a part-time Custodian to maintain the facility in like-new condition through cleaning and light maintenance. You will provide excellent customer service to staff and patrons and maintain reliable attendance.

The position requires at least a high school diploma or GED, basic office skills, and the ability to perform routine custodial tasks daily and weekly. Weekend shifts are required, with some evenings and occasional snow or ice removal.

Qualifications

  • Read and understand policy manuals, safety rules, and maintenance instructions.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Compute rate, ratio, and percent; interpret bar graphs.

Responsabilités

  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms daily.
  • Sweep and mop all hard surface floors daily.
  • Clean kitchens, refrigerators, and microwaves daily.
  • Vacuum floors daily.
  • Dust rooms, furniture, and shelves daily.
  • Clean drinking fountains daily.
  • Vacuum upholstered furniture weekly.
  • Empty waste baskets and remove trash daily.
  • Clean sidewalks, entryways, and outside areas as needed.
  • Clean windows, doors, and baseboards as needed.
  • Work with Office Manager to purchase safe cleaning products monthly.
  • Buff and wax tile floors annually.
  • Assist in setting up meeting rooms as needed.
  • Report needs for building repair as needed.
  • Assist in writing improvement plans for facility upkeep.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as light bulb changes and touch ups.

Job Title

LIBRARY: Custodian (Part-Time)

Position Details

Position is for 24 hours per week, with work scheduled on Friday and Saturday.

General Description Of Position

Maintains the Rogers Public Library day-to-day in like-new condition through excellent housekeeping and custodial practice, and performs basic building maintenance.

Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers, maintains positive working relationships with library employees, and maintains regular and reliable attendance that is not disruptive.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Clean and sanitize all bathrooms; and other preparation for opening. This duty is performed daily.
  • Sweep and mop all hard surface floors. This duty is performed daily.
  • Cleans kitchen areas including, but not limited to refrigerators and microwave ovens. This duty is performed daily.
  • Vacuum floors. This duty is performed daily.
  • Dust all rooms in building, including but not limited to furniture, window frames, bookshelves, etc. This duty is performed daily.
  • Clean and sanitize drinking fountains. This duty is performed daily.
  • Vacuum upholstered furniture on a rotation basis. This duty is performed weekly.
  • Empty waste baskets and remove trash to designated area(s). This duty is performed daily.
  • Clean sidewalks, entryway and other outside areas of debris, leaves, snow, ice, etc. as necessary. This duty is performed as needed.
  • Clean windows, doors, all glass and baseboards regularly. This duty is performed as needed.
  • Work with Office Manager to purchase safe and cost effective cleaning products. This duty is performed monthly.
  • Buff and wax VCT tile floors on a regular schedule. This duty is performed annually.
  • Assist in setting up meeting rooms. This duty is performed as needed.
  • Report needs for building repair. This duty is performed as needed.
  • Assist in writing improvement plans for facility upkeep, e.g., painting schedules, carpet cleaning, etc. This duty is performed as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance, e.g. changing light bulbs, replacing screws, touch up painting, etc. This duty is performed as needed.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications

Education And Experience
Equivalent to four years high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or other relevant areas, plus 2 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Communication Skills
Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.

Critical Thinking Skills
Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.

Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
High school diploma or GED.

Preferred Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Formal training in a custodial related field.

Software Skills Required
Basic: Word Processing/Typing.

Work Schedule and Compensation

Salary: $16.20 per hour.

Job status: Open.

Hours: 24 hours per week (Friday and Saturday).

Additional Information

Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings. The two staff members in this position are on their feet most of the day. A portion of the schedule includes working after the library is closed to the public. Activities include touch-up painting, exterior cleaning, and occasional snow or ice removal. There is a full-time and a part-time position. Full-time staff work with the Administrative Assistant and Library Director to recommend projects and coordinate duties on days when both work, and both recommend building repairs and maintenance.
