BlaBlaCar is seeking a seasoned Legal Counsel to support its fast-growing marketplace, bus and train services, across EU jurisdictions and beyond. You will engage with product teams, negotiate commercial contracts, and advise on regulatory topics to enable international expansion.

The role requires 6–8 years as a qualified lawyer, strong drafting skills, and fluency in English and French, with an appetite for project management in a dynamic tech environment.

Qualifications

• 6 to 8 years of experience as a qualified lawyer in an EU country.
• Experience in start-ups and new technology companies, either in house or in private practice.
• Knowledge in e-commerce, consumer protection and competition law.
• Full working proficiency in English and French.
• Ability to work across jurisdictions.

Responsabilités

• Be a trusted advisor to marketplace, bus and train business teams across EU and beyond by providing creative solutions while ensuring compliance with regulations.
• Managing pre-litigations and litigations.
• Drafting and negotiating all types of contracts (commercial, partnerships, etc).
• Collaborate with internal partners, including government relations, to respond to regulators.
• All other matters in day-to-day expansion of the business.
• Areas of relevance include consumer issues, transportation regulation, e-commerce, digital and competition law.

Your mission

We are looking for a talented and business oriented tech company experienced lawyer to join the Legal team at BlaBlaCar on a permanent contract starting as soon as possible. Their mission is to support the high speed growth of the marketplace and international expansion of the business.

As a Legal Counsel, your role will be to provide support to our marketplace, bus and train business teams on multiple legal practice areas such as commercial contracts, e-commerce, consumer protection and competition law. You will be reporting to the Head of Legal and working with a team of approx. 10 people. Knowledge in EU and FR law is a must; Knowledge of a foreign law (such as laws from Spain, Mexico, Ukraine) is a strong asset.

This position requires the capacity of working in a fast growing tech company, of developing a high level of understanding of how our product works and of creating close connections with operational teams. Having an appetite for project management is a must.

Your Responsibilities

• Be a trusted advisor to the marketplace, bus and train business teams in multiple jurisdictions within EU and beyond by providing creative solutions while ensuring compliance with regulations, with a specific focus on our OTA (online travel agency) role;
• Managing any pre-litigations and litigations;
• Drafting and negotiating all types of contracts (including commercial contracts, partnership agreements, etc);
• Collaborate with internal partners, and notably government relations team, to respond to requests from regulators;
• All other matters which arise in the day to day running of an expanding business;
• Areas of particular relevance include consumer issues, commercial contracts, transportation regulation, e-commerce, digital law, competition law.

Your Qualifications

• 6 to 8 years of experience as a qualified lawyer in an EU country, with experience in start-ups and new technology companies, either in house or in private practice;
• Knowledge and experience in dealing with a range of commercial issues such as e-commerce, platform regulation and consumer protection;
• Knowledge and experience dealing with regulatory topics;
• Comfortable working in various jurisdictions;
• Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills;
• Business oriented, creative and solution driven mind-set;
• Experience creating and managing processes and moving large-scale project forward;
• Autonomy and sense of initiative;
• Ability to work fast and meet aggressive deadlines;
• Flexibility and eagerness to learn new areas of law;
• You have excellent communication skills, you’re humble, and you enjoy sharing & learning from others;
• Full working proficiency in English and French. proficiency in an additional language (e.g. Spanish or Ukrainian) considered a strong asset.
