This IXO track examines scientific reasoning about how materials are made, measured and used in devices. You will turn practical experimental knowledge into challenging tasks, check the evidence behind AI-generated explanations, and identify where an interpretation exceeds what the measurements establish.

Work you will do

• Develop specialist problems and solutions about synthesis, materials characterization, fabrication or device physics.
• Evaluate and rank scientific outputs against explicit criteria, recording errors and explaining the appropriate correction.
• Structure experimental procedures, characterization findings and process data into coherent evaluation material.
• Check whether proposed conclusions are consistent with the technique, sample context and limits of the underlying evidence.

Preferred background

• Advanced degree or equivalent hands‑on materials, chemistry, physics or related engineering experience.
• Experimental expertise in one or more routes: solid‑state/solution/solvothermal/sol‑gel inorganic synthesis; superconductors; semiconductors and advanced packaging.
• Strong characterization skills using XRD, SEM, TEM, spectroscopy or electrical/transport measurements.
• Thin‑film growth or fabrication experience, including relevant MBE/epitaxy, MOCVD/CVD, sputtering, IBAD, etch or clean‑room methods, is a plus.
• Clear written English and concise scientific explanations.

Deliverables

Technical problems, reasoned evaluations and structured experimental‑evidence packages appropriate for AI training and assessment.

Location and schedule

Remote; United States residence applies to this track. Indicative availability is 10–40 hours a week. The actual schedule, volume and duration are agreed before work.

Pay and working terms

$89/hr USD. IXO will agree the assignment scope, hourly rate, schedule and acceptance criteria before work begins. Work is a paid remote expert engagement; applying does not guarantee an assignment.
