ValPay, a PCI DSS Level 1 payments platform, is seeking a Head of Engineering in France to own the engineering org, shape structure, and deliverables alongside CEO and product/go-to-market leadership. This build role focuses on scaling the team without sacrificing speed and hands-on energy.

You will establish a delivery rhythm, develop a management layer, set technical standards, and drive AI adoption while partnering with security and compliance to meet multi-jurisdiction obligations.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering, with 4+ years leading engineering teams.
• Proven experience building, structuring, and scaling tech organizations in high-growth settings.
• Experience hiring and developing engineering leaders.
• Hands-on depth for architecture reviews, incidents, and design.
• Strong judgment on build-versus-buy and technical debt.
• Track record implementing delivery processes in fast-moving teams.
• Ambition to reach CTO level with a plan to grow into it.

Responsabilités

• Own engineering delivery end to end — planning, execution, release cadence and quality.
• Build and lead the engineering management layer with managers, tech leads and senior engineers.
• Collaborate with Product on roadmap feasibility, sequencing and trade-offs.
• Set and enforce technical standards across the platform for scalability.
• Serve as senior technical escalation point for integrations with payment partners.
• Drive AI adoption in the SDLC, developer productivity, and the product.
• Own engineering operations and reliability — on-call, incidents, postmortems and SLAs.
• Partner with security and compliance to maintain PCI DSS and multi-jurisdiction obligations.
• Be steady under pressure and build organizational muscle to handle incidents.
