Job summary

Mistral is seeking a founding Storage Engineering Team Lead for our European cloud platform. You will build the storage stack (block, file, object) from the ground up, hire and mentor the initial team, and own capacity planning across datacenters.

You will decide what to build in Go and when to deploy vendor solutions, ensuring durable, scalable storage for frontier AI workloads. You will grow into a leadership role while staying hands-on at the start, shaping how our data stores sustain a

Qualifications

• 2+ years of real people leadership.
• Experience building storage systems (object/block/distributed filesystems).
• Shipped production systems in Go; comfortable with Go daily.

Responsibilities

• Stand up the storage stack for training, sandbox, and compute workloads.
• Make build-vs-buy decisions; deploy vendor platforms or write your own services in Go.
• Own the data plane: allocation, duplication, tiering, backup and recovery, S3-compatible APIs.
• Plan capacity across datacenters and failure domains; scale storage to petabytes.
• Build the team from zero: hire, onboard, coach, and define growth paths.
• Partner with Product Managers to shape the storage roadmap and tradeoffs.
