About the role

As an Expert in French Classical & Modern Art, you will be closely involved with evaluating and arranging lots submitted by our users. Using your expert knowledge in French artworks, you will be responsible for creating attractive auctions every week.

Catawiki strives to keep user transactions as transparent and fair as possible, and your expertise and experience play a large part in maintaining this standard; you know better than anyone what items are of interest to our users.

You will review lot titles, descriptions, lot pictures, and provide users with an estimated value based on this information. If you need to reject a submission, you do so in a professional and courteous manner. Your efforts result in exceptional auctions that bidders will find irresistible.

Finally, you’ll also be working together with our sales team and proactively review seller segments, assist team members in onboarding high potential leads and upselling existing sellers.

What you’ll do

• Appraise and estimate French works of art (paintings and drawings from XVIIth to mid. XXth century) in direct contact with sellers.
• Create attractive auctions every week.
• Source artworks from high potential sellers in France.
• Onboard high potential leads in collaboration with the Sales team.

What you’ll bring

• +5 years of experience as an expert/curator (or trained as a commissaire-priseur) with expertise in the Art market.
• Strong negotiation skills to effectively communicate with art dealers, galleries, and other stakeholders, aiming to secure favorable deals and acquisitions.
• Excellent English communication skills.
• Documented commercial experience.
• Great computer skills necessary.
• French art market network.
• You are a natural team player and thrive in a diverse team environment.
• An affinity for numbers and analyzing auction results is a plus!

Our Offices and Way of Working

Our vibrant offices in Amsterdam, Paris and Lisbon are designed to inspire and connect. Most Catawikians are within commuting distance of one of our offices and enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work model. This means we typically ask you to be in the office 2 out of 5 days, roughly 40% of your working time, to collaborate and connect with your colleagues. Of course, if the job description specifies that the role is 100% remote—such as for certain expert or sales positions—then that arrangement will apply.
