Job summary

OpenAI’s Applied AI Engineering team seeks an experienced engineer to design, build, and deploy AI systems that deliver measurable business outcomes. You will work hands-on to create prototypes, evaluation harnesses, and production accelerators, guiding decisions on models, safety, and governance.

Based in Paris with a hybrid model (3 days in office per week) and relocation assistance for new employees, you will collaborate with enterprise customers and cross-functional OpenAI teams to scale

Qualifications

• Design, build, and deliver AI/ML systems in enterprise environments.
• Take systems from prototype to production with strong judgment.
• Fluent in French and English; able to communicate with diverse teams.
• Contribute code across the AI application stack including Python.
• Understand enterprise production requirements like reliability and governance.

Responsibilities

• Translate opportunities into technical architectures, evaluation strategies, and measurable success criteria.
• Design, build, and deploy AI systems delivering measurable business outcomes.
• Code prototypes, evaluation harnesses, reference implementations, and production accelerators.
• Make decisions across models, retrieval, data, latency, cost, safety, security, and governance.
• Diagnose complex challenges, reproduce failures, test hypotheses, and drive resolution.
• Help customers mature prototypes to reliable production systems with sustained adoption.
• Collaborate with customer teams and product/engineering/security/go-to-market groups for feedback.
• Create reusable architectures, tooling, and playbooks for future deployments.
