IDEMIA Public Security seeks an engineering student for an internship focused on building a conversational AI agent to aid field integration teams working with biometric terminals. You will collaborate with product, firmware, and documentation teams to design, implement, and validate AI-assisted configuration workflows.

The role requires NLP/LLM knowledge, strong Python programming, and familiarity with LangChain or LlamaIndex. French/French-English proficiency is desirable for technical docs.

Purpose

Join our team of 12 within the Biometrics Solutions & Technologies entity, working on the product line dedicated to biometric access control terminals. This internship is based in Osny, for 4 to 6 months., starting as soon as possible.

This innovative range includes identification and access control solutions using biometric technologies (fingerprints, contactless fingerprints, facial recognition) and/or badges, supported by powerful management software. Our products are deployed worldwide, both indoors and outdoors, in environments such as banks, airports, ports, corporate headquarters, casinos and businesses. Users interact with them through a touchscreen and a network interface, providing a smooth and intuitive experience.

Your mission will be to design and develop a conversational AI agent to help field integration teams integrate and configure our biometric terminals more easily and efficiently. You will work closely with the product and field integration teams, firmware developers and technical documentation specialists.

Key Missions

• Analyse existing technical documentation and define a strategy for extracting and structuring information.
• Compare a RAG pipeline with a structured knowledge base and select the most suitable solution for the context.
• Implement version control for the indexed knowledge base to link each configuration to a specific firmware version and keep the agent up to date as the documentation evolves.
• Develop the conversational agent using a large language model (Anthropic’s Claude API) to answer integrators’ questions in natural language, recommend suitable parameter values for each deployment scenario and guide configuration step by step.
• Build a conversational interface accessible to integrators and validate the agent’s responses using real-world field use cases.
• Assess the relevance and accuracy of the agent’s responses, refining prompt engineering and the RAG architecture to improve coverage and reliability.
• Present the work and its results to the technical teams.

Profile & Other Information

• Engineering student or final-year Master’s student in computer science, artificial intelligence or a related field.
• Knowledge of natural language processing (NLP) fundamentals and large language models (LLMs).
• Proficiency in Python; familiarity with LangChain or LlamaIndex would be an advantage.
• Interest in RAG architectures and conversational agents.
• Interest in embedded systems and physical access control would be an advantage.
• Fluency in French and professional proficiency in English to understand technical documentation.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn.
• Team spirit and confidence communicating with different stakeholders.
• Ability to adapt to new tools and technical environments.
