ixolabs.ai invites a remote research expert to audit and adjudicate theoretical and numerical arguments in disorder, topology and finite-system behavior within statistical physics and quantum information contexts.

The role focuses on analyzing replicated random-bond Ising and Ashkin–Teller models, addressing dualities, quenched disorder and toric-code thresholds, with deliverables including defensible solutions or structured critiques.

Qualifications

• PhD-level or equivalent research background in statistical physics, quantum information or condensed-matter theory.
• Practical research using duality, quenched-disorder averaging and lattice self-duality.
• Numerical experience with the four-state Potts model and domain-wall free energy; familiarity with toric-code thresholds.

This IXO track examines whether advanced theoretical and numerical arguments remain correct when disorder, topology and finite-system behavior matter. Assignments may involve solving a problem, auditing another solution, or adjudicating competing results according to your specialist experience.

Work you will do

• Analyze replicated random-bond Ising and Ashkin–Teller models, including their relationship to the Nishimori line and toric-code threshold phenomena.
• Check arguments involving Kramers–Wannier duality, quenched-disorder averaging and square-lattice self-duality; make hidden assumptions explicit.
• Evaluate numerical work on the four-state Potts model and explain the interpretation of domain-wall free energy.
• Investigate noncontractible loop defects and other relevant topological features, providing reproducible calculations or precise critiques where appropriate.

Location and schedule

The indicative commitment is 5–10 or more hours a week with flexible timing; actual hours and deliverables will be agreed before work.

Pay and working terms

$105 $210/hr USD. IXO will agree the assignment scope, hourly rate, schedule and acceptance criteria before work begins.
