Description du poste

Development Engineer, Ground Segment Imaging – Image Processing Facility (M/F)
About Magellium Artal Group

Magellium Artal Group, with its 300 employees, specializes in the remote sensing data value chain (from satellite or drone sensors to their use in Earth observation systems and services, mapping, and geointelligence) and promotes expertise in space technologies, software, signal processing, and geomatics.

As part of its Earth observation activities, Magellium is involved in major programs led by space agencies and other institutions. Magellium is recognized by its customers for its scientific expertise in many fields, ranging from measurement physics to downstream applications. The Earth observation projects entrusted to us by our customers involve, in particular, the implementation of scientific processing chains for data acquired by satellites.

These processing chains, whether prototypes or operational, are developed with a view to integration into the ground segments of satellite missions. The specificity of these processes lies in the combined mastery of scientific or algorithmic remote sensing techniques and the methodological, organizational, and IT engineering of processing chains in an environment often constrained by robustness and performance requirements.

The position

We are hiring a software engineer for the Ground Segments team within Magellium’s “Earth Observation” unit.

You will begin working on the FLEX Disc project for ESA as part of the Image Processing Facility development team, implementing the mission’s data processing pipelines. The FLEX mission aims to provide researchers with new data to better understand vegetation dynamics on a global scale.

As such, your main missions include :

  • Participation in the following phases:
    • Development of operational processing workflows, in close collaboration with scientists,
    • Optimization of algorithms, particularly with the goal of reducing processing time or memory usage,
    • Implementation of unit tests and validation procedures,
    • Support for integrating software into the mission's PDGS and evolving processing chains during the operational phase,
  • Drafting documents (reports, summaries, specifications, technical documentation, publications) and giving oral presentations of results within a project context.

You will contribute to activities that complement the project you are starting on. You will be involved in the design and architecture of processing chains and/or in the development of technical proposals in response to requests for proposals.

Profile required

You have at least five years of proven experience in software development. You have a strong understanding of algorithms. You are passionate about the space sector and, ideally, have experience in the field of space ground segments.

You have a good command of written and spoken English. This allows you to read and write documentation and to discuss and present topics fluently.

  • Proficiency in Python for scientific programming is required; proficiency in other languages is a plus,
  • Proficiency in Docker and continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) procedures,
  • A foundation in algorithms and applied mathematics is preferred, particularly in signal processing.
  • Independence, proactivity, a sense of responsibility, and commitment,
  • An interest in the sciences,
  • Strong ability to adapt and quickly acquire new technical skills,
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a knack for teamwork, and clear communication.
  • Additional strengths:
    • Knowledge of space-based ground segments and methodologies related to the development lifecycle,
    • Knowledge of engineering standards (ECSS or equivalent) and requirements engineering.
