Compute Support Engineer - Kubernetes & HPC

Job summary

Mistral is building a new Compute Support team to ensure reliability, performance, and scalability of GPU clusters in a Kubernetes environment. You will be the first contact for customers and internal teams, providing technical guidance and issue resolution for compute-related inquiries.

In this hybrid L1/L2 role, you will work on debugging Linux/Kubernetes issues, optimize configurations, and collaborate with SRE teams on IaC tooling. Go skills are a plus for automation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in system administration, technical support, or infrastructure operations, with a focus on compute-heavy environments (bare metal, cloud, HPC, or virtualization).
• Deep Linux/Unix expertise: debugging kernel-level issues, performance tuning, networking troubleshooting, storage management.
• Hands-on Kubernetes experience is mandatory: debugging pods/nodes/clusters, networking and storage, resource management.
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker, containerd) and basic IaC; proficient with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
• Basic scripting/automation skills (Go preferred; Bash or Python acceptable).
• Experience with bare metal, virtualization, or HPC environments is a plus (Fluidstack, Coreweave, Vast).
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills; ability to explain issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Act as the first interlocutor for customers and internal teams for compute-related inquiries.
• Triage and prioritize requests; meet SLAs for acknowledgment, first response, and resolution.
• Gather and analyze issue details (logs, errors, metrics) to diagnose problems.
• Provide clear, actionable guidance and temporary workarounds as needed.
• Serve as L2 escalation point for Linux, Kubernetes, and compute infra issues.
• Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks and hardware failures in distributed systems.
• Analyze system metrics and logs to identify root causes; participate in on-call rotations.
• Collaborate with SRE teams to improve IaC (Terraform, Ansible) and Go tools, and maintain runbooks.
