IXO is seeking specialists to evaluate behavioral questions requiring a true understanding of a C codebase. You will perform technical work: inspect the code, identify substantive errors, and provide evidence to support reliable assessments.

The deliverable is a complete technical artifact with supporting evidence, explicit assumptions, reproducible checks where applicable, and concise reasons for each material judgment.

Qualifications

• At least three years of professional software development experience with C and large codebases.
• Experience with preprocessors/platform branches, memory ownership, and build systems (Meson, CMake, autotools).
• Ability to establish runtime behavior using tracing, sanitizers, debuggers, and profiling.

IXO is engaging specialists to evaluate behavioral questions that require a real understanding of a C codebase. Your contribution is technical work: make the reasoning inspectable, identify substantive errors and provide evidence that supports a reliable assessment.

Work you will do

• Investigate the repository and run the relevant code to establish what it actually does.
• Write questions whose answers depend on C implementation details and defensible runtime evidence.
• Create answer criteria and deterministic rubrics that distinguish correct explanations from plausible but unsupported guesses.

Preferred background

• At least three professional software years with substantial production C and the ability to establish runtime behavior in a large unfamiliar repository.
• Understand preprocessor/platform branches, memory ownership and build systems such as Meson, CMake or autotools; use tracing, sanitizers, debuggers and profiling to support conclusions.
• Systems, networking, databases or cryptography experience and precise written explanations are especially useful.

Deliverables

Submit the completed technical artifact or assessment with its supporting evidence, explicit assumptions, reproducible checks where applicable, and concise reasons for each material judgment. Address review findings within the agreed scope.

Location and schedule

Remote assignments are scheduled by agreement, with no guaranteed weekly volume. IXO confirms the applicable timing before work.

$140/task USD. Payment is for a completed task that meets the agreed acceptance criteria.
