Proton Technologies AG is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for the Platform team to design and build core systems used by Proton Mail and Calendar, focusing on scale and cost efficiency. You will drive performance improvements, monitor systems with observability tools, and lead key initiatives end-to-end.

You will work with backend and client engineers to ensure high quality, reliable delivery and implement comprehensive testing strategies.

Qualifications

• Backend engineer with track record designing, building and scaling large-scale systems serving 100M+ users.
• Improve the performance and cost-efficiency of systems in production.
• Hands-on with monitoring and observability tooling and a data-driven approach.
• Strong SQL (MySQL preferred) and data modeling.
• Experience leading a technical initiative end-to-end from design to production.

Responsabilités

• Architect and develop core systems shared by Proton Mail and Calendar with scale and cost efficiency.
• Improve performance of existing systems using metrics to identify spend.
• Data-driven delivery: measure and prioritize work.
• Collaborate with backend and client engineers focusing on quality and performance.
• Develop and implement comprehensive testing strategies including unit and integration tests.
