Job summary

Ekimetrics is seeking an Intern to contribute to the Innovation Department, focusing on agentic AI for semi-automating the data science workflow. You will work with senior data scientists and AI builders to develop remit, an agentic system, in a production-grade data stack.

The role emphasizes applied AI research and engineering, exploring problem framing, data design, and evaluation across the data science lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Currently in final year of a Master’s or Engineering degree.
• Strong foundations in machine learning, statistics, and programming.
• Familiarity with large language models and agentic techniques (prompting, tool calling, structured outputs).
• Strong Python skills and the standard data science toolkit (pandas/polars, scikit-learn).
• Nice to have: Databricks, MLflow, cloud data platforms.

Responsibilities

• Review the latest research on agentic data science and the evaluation of AI agents.
• Design and implement remit's agents, starting with problem framing and data design and automatic checks for data leakage.
• Help define how the system works with business users: when to ask, when to stop, and how to explain results in plain language.
• Extend the system toward modeling and evaluation using trusted tools rather than free-form generated code.
• Build a benchmark of realistic business cases and run experiments to measure quality, reliability and cost.
• Help integrate the system with the Databricks stack (Unity Catalog, MLflow) and support safe, governed operation of the agents.
