Helsingin kaupunki is seeking a youth worker to serve mainly in the Roihuvuori area, engaging with youth facilities and Kulttuurilabra. You will support self-directed activities, facilitate inclusive participation, and collaborate with partners across Kaakko to reach youths with accessible, youth-oriented services.
The role emphasizes evening and weekend work, building trust with young people, and helping them contribute to their own communities. Prior experience in youth work is required.
We are looking for a youth worker for the Southeast youth work unit in a permanent employment relationship.
As a youth worker, you will work mainly in the Roihuvuori area in different youth facilities and occasionally at the Hertsa youth center, where we also serve lower secondary school-aged residents of Roihuvuori. In the unit, we work together with all the youth of the Kaakko area, so the Laajasalo youth center and the leisure activity environments of the area's youth will also become familiar to you and you will work in them.
Roihuvuori youth center is a traditional youth center where open youth center activities are organized. Kulttuurilabra, located in Roihuvuori, focuses on enabling the self-directed activities of young people. At Kulttuurilabra, young people are offered opportunities to participate in guided cultural groups and content as well as support for creating their own project. As a youth worker, you would work in the open activities of Kulttuurilabra together with a cultural youth worker. An inclusive approach and encouraging young people to influence and self-directed activity are emphasized in the work.
As a youth worker, you create conditions for the agency of young people. You provide support to young people in their various life situations and enable joining communities that are meaningful to them. You act in a youth-oriented manner and support them as part of a group and as individuals. As a youth worker, you ensure that young people have space and opportunities for fun activities and self-expression in their own area as well as opportunities to influence their own immediate environment. You react, as far as possible, together with young people, colleagues and partners to phenomena concerning young people. You build a relationship of trust with young people through functionality and present encounters.
The eligibility requirement for the task is a suitable degree, for example, a vocational qualification of youth and leisure instructor or a vocational qualification in education and guidance.
We require previous experience in youth work.
