Job summary

Helsingin kaupunki seeks a social instructor for a permanent outreach position. You will work in pairs across the city, guiding and supporting homeless and socially vulnerable adults in streets and food distributions.

Responsibilities include psychosocial support, referrals, and strong collaboration with networks, while enhancing customer participation. A diverse, supervised, and development-focused city work environment awaits.

Qualifications

• University of Applied Sciences degree suitable for the social field (sosionomi).
• Registration in the central register of professionals (License and Supervision Authority).
• Good oral and satisfactory written Finnish proficiency.
• Vaccination protection and tuberculosis certificate as required.
• Class B driver's license with manual transmission driving experience.

About the role

Helsinki's social, health and rescue services adult social work unit includes adult social work and guidance teams as well as outreach work. Outreach work is seeking a social instructor for a permanent position starting 1.10.2026. Outreach work deploys ten social instructors and one nurse to the streets and food aid. Work takes place in pairs throughout the city area. Workstations are located in Myllypuro, Malmi, Pohjois-Haaga and Kalasatama. Work is also done occasionally in the evenings, nights and weekends.

Your tasks

Your tasks include proactively reaching adults who are outside the services or weakly attached to them, e.g. on the streets, in public and semi-public spaces and in food distributions. You offer those encountered guidance and instruction, psychosocial support and referral to services as needed. Encounters focus on working with homeless, mentally symptomatic or substance-using people. Other key tasks are multidisciplinary network work and broad structural social work. We are committed to strengthening customer participation throughout our operations.

Eligibility

Eligibility requirement:
University of Applied Sciences degree suitable for the social field (sosionomi) in accordance with the Act on Social Care Professionals 817/2015 (Section 8).
Registration in the central register of professionals of the License and Supervision Authority is required in the position.
Language skill requirement is good oral and satisfactory written skill in Finnish.
Vaccination protection in accordance with Section 48 of the Communicable Diseases Act and a tuberculosis certificate in accordance with Section 55 are required in the position.
