Job description

Help Engineers Solve Real-World Technical Problems Across Europe from Porvoo, Finland

At Thermetrics Europe, we support engineers, researchers, manufacturers, and technical organizations with precision thermal and moisture measurement technology, application expertise, service, calibration, and technical support.

We may be a young European company, but we are not starting from scratch. We have more than 40 years of Thermetrics technology, engineering experience, and industry knowledge behind us.

We're now building the next stage of Thermetrics Europe, and we're looking for a Technical Support Engineer to join our growing team in Porvoo, Finland. This would be a perfect place for a recent graduate to start their career.

The Role

This is a hands-on, varied engineering role. You'll provide technical support to customers, assemble and test our products in Porvoo, travel throughout Europe for installations and service, troubleshoot equipment, perform calibrations, train customers, and help them get the most from their Thermetrics systems.

You'll also work closely with our engineering team in the US, bringing customer and field experience back into product development and continuous improvement. No two days will look exactly the same. You might be troubleshooting a system remotely in the morning, preparing equipment for shipping items in the afternoon, and traveling to a customer site the following week.

Travel is approximately 25% or less, throughout Europe, occasionally including trips to outside Europe as well.

Help Build the Support Team

We're building our European support organization as we grow, which means this isn't a role where every process is already written and every responsibility has been neatly assigned. There will be trial and error, problem solving, and plenty of wearing different hats.

You will have opportunities to help develop service procedures, documentation, customer support processes, training materials, and new ways of working. Sometimes you'll be doing the technical work. Sometimes you'll be helping figure out how the technical work should be done.

We're looking for someone who enjoys that kind of environment.

You don't need to know everything on day one. You do need to be curious, willing to learn, comfortable asking questions, and able to look at a problem and say: “We haven’t done this before. Let’s figure it out.”

You’ll be part of a small, collaborative team, but field service also requires you to be comfortable working independently.

When you’re at a customer site, you may be the technical person in the room. You’ll need to assess the situation, troubleshoot on the go, make good decisions, communicate clearly, and keep working toward a solution even when conditions aren’t perfect.

We’re looking for someone who:
  • Works well as part of a small team.
  • Can work independently in the field.
  • Enjoys hands-on troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Stays calm when things don’t go according to plan.
  • Takes ownership of problems and follows them through to resolution.
  • Knows when to solve a problem independently and when to reach out for help.
  • Is willing to pitch in wherever needed as the company grows.
  • Communicates well with both technical and non-technical customers.
What You’ll Bring
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • At least 2 years of experience with scientific instrumentation, laboratory equipment, automated equipment, engineered products, field service, commissioning, or technical support.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A practical, hands‑on approach to technical problem solving.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% internationally, mostly alone
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative international team.
  • Native or professional working proficiency in English.
  • Valid Driver's License
Nice to have:
  • Experience with scientific instrumentation or laboratory equipment.
  • Experience with thermal, environmental, textile, or PPE testing.
  • Experience with calibration, validation, commissioning, or field service.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks, Python, Excel, Power BI, or similar tools.
  • Finnish or Swedish language skills.
Why Thermetrics Europe?

You’ll be joining a company with the technology and experience of an established global organization, while having the opportunity to help shape a young and growing European operation.

You’ll work with advanced thermal testing technology, support customers across Europe, collaborate with experienced engineers internationally, and have a direct influence on how our European service and support organization develops.

This is a role for someone who wants to build, not just maintain.

If you enjoy solving real-world engineering problems, working with customers, troubleshooting in the field, and helping build something that is still taking shape, we’d like to hear from you.

Employment: Full‑time, with a trial period

Travel: Up to 25%, mostly Europe

Education: Bachelor’s (Required)

Language: English, Professional or Native (Required), and Finnish/Swedish, Working (Preferred)

The recruitment process may include interviews and a practical or technical assignment. Depending on the position and the stage of the recruitment process, an aptitude assessment may also be used.

The selected candidate will be required to complete a health examination. Where relevant to the position, a security clearance may also be conducted with the candidate’s consent.
