Sievo is hiring a Senior/Lead Cloud Data Engineer to join our Helsinki team. You’ll build ELT platforms, design scalable data pipelines, and apply strong software engineering practices to production-grade data products.

You’ll collaborate with data and software engineers, shaping a platform used across our data pipelines and customer solutions, with a hybrid work model in Helsinki and remote options.

Qualifications

• Strong data engineering and ELT experience building maintainable data pipelines, also written in code rather than relying solely on managed cloud tooling.
• Solid experience with cloud data technologies, preferably Databricks and Azure; Databricks on AWS counts as well.
• SQL and Python skills for processing and moving large, complex datasets.
• Software engineering practice: Git/version control, automated testing and clean, reproducible, maintainable code.
• Ability to move between a wide architectural perspective and small technical details.

Responsibilities

• Build standard Azure Databricks solutions for integration pipelines between customer solutions and Sievo cloud.
• Own and improve ELT products built for extraction, transformation, and loading data to Sievo’s Procurement Data Schema.
• Apply software engineering practices: Git, CI/CD workflows, automated testing, reproducible production-quality code.
• Proactively suggest improvements to reduce manual work, increase testing, scalability, robustness, and availability of data systems.
• Develop reproducible environments and cloud resources — permissions, deployment patterns, infrastructure-as-code, security, scalability, cost efficiency.
• Build common monitoring, data quality checks, and validations to keep data trustworthy.
• Gather technical requirements from stakeholders, communicate trade-offs, and drive delivery to production.
• Troubleshoot platform and integration issues, fixing root causes.

Job description

We are looking for a Senior (Lead) Cloud Data Engineer to join our Helsinki team. We are growing our Connectors & Data Factory team and opening multiple roles for both Senior and Lead levels of experience.

About the role

At Sievo, data is everything — we process more than 2% of global GDP in spend, and turning data at that scale into dependable products takes a serious engineering foundation. The team in question is responsible for the platform used to ingest our customers’ data - the foundation for Sievo’s key data asset. As an Cloud Data Engineer, you will build the tools, libraries, data schemas, processes, and best practices that our Data Engineers use to build customer-specific ELT pipelines. We lay the foundation for processing large datasets at scale, enabling reliable extraction and transformation of our global clients’ data.

This role sits at the intersection of data engineering and software engineering. You will design and build an ELT platform that supports the various needs of our data pipelines, data products, and Data Engineers working with it. You know how to build and manage solid data pipelines, can design the environments and infrastructure they require, and apply solid software engineering practices — version control, testing, automation, and reproducibility — so the products built on top are dependable. Think of it as a data engineer with a product-development mindset and the engineering rigor of a software engineer.

You will work closely with data engineers, software engineers, and other product teams — gathering requirements, making sensible technical trade-offs, and sharing ownership of the platform you help build. This is not a single-project role: in the longer term, the work enables many teams, giving you a hand in shaping Sievo’s data-driven future as a whole.

What you’ll do

• Build common monitoring, data quality checks, and validations so that our data remains trustworthy and understandable
• Gather technical requirements from internal stakeholders, clearly communicate trade-offs, and work with the team to take deliverables through to production
• Troubleshoot platform and integration issues, fixing root causes rather than symptoms

What we’re looking for

• Strong data engineering and ELT experience building maintainable data pipelines, also written in code rather than relying solely on managed cloud tooling
• Solid experience with cloud data technologies, preferably Databricks and Azure. Databricks on AWS counts as well
• SQL and Python skills for processing and moving large, complex datasets
• Software engineering practice: Git/version control, automated testing and clean, reproducible, maintainable code
• Ability to move between a wide, architectural perspective and small, technical details
• Hands-on experience and skills with agentic development
• Ability to take ownership and deliver as part of a product team — balancing independent work with close collaboration
• A growth mindset and a can-do attitude
• Communication skills, with the ability to gather requirements, explain technical trade-offs, and collaborate across teams

Bonus points for

• Background in backend software engineering
• Experience with building large-scale data platforms or data architectures
• Experience with procurement, ERP, or accounting data, or other complex enterprise data domains
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and platform/environment ownership (permissions, security, scalability, monitoring, cost efficiency)

Our salary range for an Cloud Data Engineer is based on the job level:

• Senior Cloud Data Engineer 5300 – 6500 eur/month
• Lead Cloud Data Engineer 6200 – 7400 eur/month

We are open to discussing higher compensation for particularly senior profiles.

This role is ideal for a Senior or Lead Data Engineer with real software engineering depth who wants to help own and evolve a data platform with their team — building and operating dependable environments, not just individual ELT jobs.
