Job summary

Fiskars Group is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead design efforts in R&D. The role combines hands-on prototyping with cross-functional collaboration to push innovative product concepts from idea to production.

Qualifications

  • MSc/BSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years in product development with a strong focus on mechanical design.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD/Solid modelling software (SolidWorks preferred) and MS Office; good understanding of plastic and metal part manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Design products using conceptual design and 3D CAD within project cost constraints.
  • Perform design validation testing of prototypes and off-tool samples; define required design modifications.
  • Develop documentation detailing performance requirements and product acceptance criteria.
  • Concept and Prototype: build, test, modify, and validate ideas in the lab.
  • Collaborate across functions (industrial design, PM, marketing) and support supply chain for cost reductions; provide proof-of-concept prototypes.

OUR ROLE

We are seeking a talented Senior Design Engineer to join Fiskars R&D team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of creating cutting-edge designs that elevate our product offerings and meet the evolving needs of our consumers. You will collaborate with a team of passionate professionals dedicated to pushing the boundaries of design and technology. This position is based either in Espoo or Billnäs factory, Finland and reports to our Senior Manager, R&D. The role is full-time and is hybrid.

WHAT YOU’LL DO AT FISKARS GROUP
  • With limited supervision, using conceptual design and 3D CAD modelling, design products that meet the objective of the project proposal and can be implemented within performance and cost constraints.
  • Perform design validation testing of prototypes and off-tool samples and define design modifications to guarantee compliance with technical specifications and performance requirements.
  • Develop documentation that defines the performance requirements for the product and product acceptance criteria to ensure an acceptable level of quality in the product.
  • Concept and Prototype. Get hands on in the lab building, testing, modifying, validating ideas and thoughts for current and possible future projects.
  • Participate in marketing research activities.
  • Translate observations from field research, ethnography and focus groups into concept sketches and drawings.
  • Analyse competing & related products and technologies.
  • Support supply chain in identifying cost reduction opportunities and making design refinements as required.
  • Support business & offering and sales with proof-of-concept prototypes and production quality prototypes for customer sales presentations.
WHO YOU ARE
  • MSc/BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in product development, with a strong focus on mechanical design.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD/solid modelling software (SolidWorks preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite, with a solid understanding of plastic and metal part manufacturing technologies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate design proposals through 2D/3D visualisations and prototypes.
  • Strong ideation and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for innovation.
  • Positive attitude and ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions.
