Job summary

Fiskars Group in Finland is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join the R&D team, driving innovative product design from concept to prototype and validation.

This hybrid role based in Espoo or Billnäs involves collaboration with designers, product managers, and global suppliers, with opportunities to influence the everyday products.

The position reports to the Senior Manager, R&D and requires 5+ years in mechanical design.

Qualifications

• MSc/BSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years in product development with a strong focus on mechanical design.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD/solid modelling (SolidWorks preferred) and MS Office; knowledge of plastic/metal part manufacturing.
• Ability to communicate design proposals via 2D/3D visuals and prototypes.
• Strong ideation and problem solving with attention to detail and a passion for innovation.
• Excellent collaboration across functions.
• Positive attitude and ability to give and receive constructive feedback.

Responsibilities

• Design products with limited supervision using conceptual design and 3D CAD within project cost constraints.
• Develop documentation defining performance requirements and product acceptance criteria for quality.
• Concept and prototype; hands-on in the lab building, testing, and validating ideas for current and future projects.
• Support marketing research by translating field observations into concept sketches and analyzing competing products.
• Support supply chain in identifying cost reduction opportunities and refine designs as required.
• Assure business offerings with proof-of-concept and production prototypes for customer presentations.

Senior Design Engineer – R&D

OUR ROLE

We are seeking a talented Senior Design Engineer to join Fiskars R&D team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of creating cutting-edge designs that elevate our product offerings and meet the evolving needs of our consumers. You will collaborate with a team of passionate professionals dedicated to pushing the boundaries of design and technology.

This position is based either in Espoo or Billnäs factory, Finland and reports to our Senior Manager, R&D. The role is full-time and is hybrid.

WHAT YOU’LL DO AT FISKARS GROUP

Responsibilities:

• - With limited supervision, using conceptual design and 3D CAD modelling, design products that meet the objective of the project proposal and can be implemented within performance and cost constraints. Perform design validation testing of prototypes and off-tool samples and define design modifications to guarantee compliance with technical specifications and performance requirements.
• - Develop documentation that defines the performance requirements for the product and product acceptance criteria to ensure an acceptable level of quality in the product.
• - Concept and Prototype. Get hands on in the lab building, testing, modifying, validating ideas and thoughts for current and possible future projects
• - Participate in marketing research activities. Translate observations from field research, ethnography and focus groups into concept sketches and drawings. Analyse competing & related products and technologies.
• - Support supply chain in identifying cost reduction opportunities and making design refinements as required.
• - Support business & offering and sales with proof-of-concept prototypes and production quality prototypes for customer sales presentations.

WHO YOU ARE

Experience:

• - MSc/BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• - 5+ years of experience in product development, with a strong focus on mechanical design.
• - Proficiency in 3D CAD/solid modelling software (SolidWorks preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite, with a solid understanding of plastic and metal part manufacturing technologies.
• - Ability to effectively communicate design proposals through 2D/3D visualizations and prototypes.
• - Strong ideation and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for innovation.
• - Positive attitude and ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
• - Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions.
