Job summary

The University of Oulu invites applications for a 3-year fixed-term Postdoctoral Researcher position in snow and microclimate processes of cold-climate ecosystems. You will join the Water, Energy and Environmental Engineering Unit to study hydrology, snow, and microclimates across Arctic and alpine regions.

We welcome candidates from hydrology, remote sensing, data science, ecology with strong numerical and programming skills.

Qualifications

• PhD in hydrology or closely related field completed by closing date.
• Strong ability to conduct independent scientific research and to publish results.
• Teaching skills and ability to supervise doctoral researchers.
• Strong background in numerical modelling and data analysis.
• Experience with programming languages such as R, Python, Julia, Fortran or C/C++.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Reconstruct historical snow, hydrological and microclimate trends using remote sensing, climate reanalysis and field data.
• Collaborate with ecologists and hydrologists to assess impacts on ecosystems and water resources.
• Publish high-quality research and contribute to open-source tools.
• Possibility of field work in northern Finland, Sweden and Norway.
