Job summary

The University of Oulu invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in snow and microclimate processes of cold-climate ecosystems. The role spans two profiles (A: technical/modelling; B: interdisciplinary) and connects to large-scale water research initiatives.

The position is fixed-term for 3 years, located in the Water, Energy and Environmental Engineering unit, Finland. You will study snow, hydrology, and microclimates across Arctic, boreal and alpine ecosystems, using remote sensing,

Qualifications

• PhD completed in a relevant field by the closing date and within 10 years of PhD award.
• Strong numerical modelling and data analysis skills.
• Experience with programming languages such as R, Python, Julia, Fortran or C/C++.
• Excellent written and spoken English; ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Integrate remote sensing observations, climate reanalysis and microclimate data to reconstruct trends.
• Collaborate with ecologists, hydrologists and modellers to assess impacts on ecosystems and water resources.
• Publish high-quality research and contribute to open-source tools.
• Field work in northern Finland, Sweden and Norway is possible.
• Participate in doctoral supervision and education.
