Job summary

The University of Oulu seeks a postdoctoral researcher in Geography to study how contemporary and historical changes in climate and land use affect freshwater biodiversity in high-latitude Europe and North America. The role includes publishing in top journals and helping develop new proposals.

Teaching up to 10% and co-supervision of master's and doctoral students are possible; participation in seminars and occasional administration is expected. Salary aligned with Finnish levels.

Qualifications

• PhD completed within last 10 years.
• Demonstrated experience in community ecology or species distribution modelling using R.
• Knowledge of aquatic ecosystems or aquatic plant ecology is a plus.
• GIS experience required; advanced GIS skills preferred.
• Experience managing heterogeneous ecological datasets and independent scientific work.

Responsibilities

• Conduct postdoctoral research on climate and land-use effects on freshwater biodiversity in high-latitude regions of Europe and North America.
• Publish results in international journals and contribute to new research proposals.
• Teach undergraduate courses up to 10% of annual hours and co-supervise graduate students.
• Present research in Kvantum Institute seminars and at international conferences; assist with administrative tasks.
