Job summary

The University of Oulu invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work in a two-year fixed-term project within the Kvantum Institute, focusing on freshwater plant biodiversity in high-latitude regions of Europe and North America.

The successful candidate will conduct research, publish in international journals, teach up to 10% of duties, and co-supervise graduate students, joining a multinational biogeography team in Oulu, Finland.

Qualifications

• PhD in Geography or related field completed within 10 years.
• Experience in community ecology or species distribution modelling using R; Python an asset.
• Knowledge of aquatic ecosystems or aquatic plant ecology is beneficial.
• Basic GIS skills required; advanced GIS is preferred.
• Experience harmonizing heterogeneous datasets and informing analyses.
• Fluent in English; strong communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Carry out postdoctoral research on climate and land-use impacts on freshwater biodiversity.
• Publish results in international journals and contribute to new proposals.
• Teach undergraduate courses up to 10% of duties and co-supervise students.
• Present research at seminars and possibly international conferences; assist with admin tasks.
