Job summary

European Investment Bank (EIB) seeks an Associate Energy Sector Specialist to help appraise energy projects, assess market conditions and policy frameworks, and contribute clear, evidence-based analyses within the Energy Advisory and Energy Efficiency Division (ENAD) of the Energy and Environment Department (E2D).

You will work in multidisciplinary teams at the Luxembourg headquarters, travel frequently outside the EU, and participate in missions and sector events while reporting to the Head of

Qualifications

• University degree, preferably in Economics, Finance, Business or related field.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in energy sector due diligence, appraisal, implementation or monitoring.
• Knowledge of energy markets, policies, regulatory frameworks and support mechanisms relevant to energy transition investments.
• Ability to contribute to financial and economic analysis, including financial models and scenario analyses.
• Quantitative analysis orientation with ability to communicate conclusions clearly in reports.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
• Excellent knowledge of English and/or French, with good command of the other language.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to investment decisions by assessing technical, economic and financial viability of energy projects and programmes.
• Evaluate wider value, commercial viability, affordability, environmental and social sustainability against EU and EIB objectives.
• Analyse energy markets, risks, pricing and tariffs, translating findings into clear conclusions on viability and impact.
• Collaborate with lending teams and multidisciplinary project teams through project cycle from screening to completion.
• Assess project risks, financing considerations, financial models and sensitivity analyses.
• Prepare concise appraisal, monitoring and completion reports and technical/economic opinions.
• Support project implementation, monitoring, lessons learned and sector approaches.
• Contribute to external analytical work and Technical Assistance, defining consultant assignments.
• Support strategic thinking with papers on energy markets, regulation, policy developments and sector strategies.
• Represent EIB in external engagements and sector events with promoters and authorities.
• Continue developing expertise across energy and environment themes.
