Job summary

SPX Aids to Navigation in Porvoo, Finland is seeking an experienced Firmware Engineer to join our engineering team. You’ll work hands-on, coding, testing and debugging firmware directly on microcontrollers, with close collaboration to hardware and systems teams.

The role emphasizes low-level C development on ARM Cortex MCUs, bare-metal and RTOS environments, and participation across NPI and sustaining engineering. A strong embedded background and English communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in embedded firmware development.
• Strong programming skills in C.
• Solid experience with bare-metal development and RTOS.
• Experience with ARM Cortex microcontrollers is valuable.
• Experience developing firmware directly on microcontrollers.
• Good understanding of embedded hardware and collaboration with hardware engineers.
• Basic understanding of BLE, LTE-M, NB-IoT and LoRaWAN is helpful.
• Knowledge of serial communication protocols (UART, I2C, SPI).
• Familiarity with GNSS and satellite communications is a plus.
• Experience with Git and development tools is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Develop embedded firmware from design through testing and release.
• Write low-level C firmware for bare-metal and RTOS environments.
• Develop, test, debug and maintain firmware for MCU-based products.
• Work on New Product Introduction and sustaining engineering activities.
• Investigate and resolve software defects and identify improvements.
• Create software designs, specifications, test plans and documentation.
• Collaborate with hardware, systems, test and project engineers to deliver complete products.
• Investigate new technologies and contribute to next-generation products.
• Test and debug firmware using laboratory equipment.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes.
