Job summary

Vallum Associates is supporting a leading engineering and project management consultancy delivering a major data centre programme in Finland. We are seeking a Head of Electrical Design to provide senior technical leadership on a PMC/client-side basis.

This is not a pure hands-on role; you will oversee third‑party design teams, challenge submissions and ensure compliance with Finnish regulations, coordinating with mechanical, automation and commissioning teams.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience leading electrical design on complex projects.
• Knowledge of Finnish regulations and construction practices.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Head of Electrical Design – Data Centres

• Location: Finland
• Contract: Permanent or Freelance

The Opportunity

We are looking to appoint an experienced Head of Electrical Design to provide senior technical leadership and design assurance on behalf of the client. This is a PMC / client-side design leadership position, rather than a purely hands‑on production design role. You will oversee and challenge designs produced by third‑party consultants and contractors, ensuring they meet the required technical, regulatory and project standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Electrical Design discipline on behalf of the client.
• Oversee and coordinate third‑party electrical design teams and consultants.
• Review and technically challenge electrical design submissions.
• Ensure design comments, actions and technical queries are appropriately addressed and closed.
• Provide independent electrical design assurance and technical oversight.
• Support technical inspections and quality reviews.
• Ensure electrical designs comply with Finnish regulations, standards and project requirements.
• Identify technical, constructability and coordination risks during the design phase.
• Coordinate with Mechanical, CSA, Automation/BMS, Commissioning and wider project teams.
• Interface with the client, consultants, contractors and project management team.
• Support the transition from design through construction, installation, testing and commissioning.
• Provide technical leadership during site delivery as construction progresses.

Qualifications

Candidate Profile

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Design professional with a background in complex, technically demanding construction projects.

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

Required Skills

• Significant Electrical Design experience.
• Experience operating as a Head of Electrical Design, Electrical Design Manager, Electrical Lead, Technical Lead or similar.
• Strong experience reviewing and managing designs produced by third‑party consultants or contractors.
• Experience within a PMC, engineering consultancy, client‑side organisation or major contractor.
• Strong knowledge of design assurance, technical review and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Knowledge of Finnish electrical regulations, standards and construction practices.
• Previous project experience in Finland is highly advantageous.
• Data centre or mission‑critical project experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Professional working proficiency in English.
