Job summary

King is seeking a Senior Backend Java Developer to build and evolve shared backend platforms used by multiple teams in our Barcelona offices. You will design, implement and operate Java backend services, aiming for reliability, scalability and clean APIs that simplify integration across teams.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience in backend software development, with a focus on core Java.
• Experience designing, implementing and debugging multithreaded and concurrent Java systems.
• Experience building and operating distributed systems under significant load.
• A good understanding of performance tuning and scalability.
• Experience designing APIs and evolving services used by other teams.
• A commitment to readable code, meaningful testing and maintainable software.
• A DevOps mindset, with ownership of services throughout their lifecycle.
• Clear communication and a collaborative approach to discussing solutions, sharing feedback and making technical decisions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Java backend services and shared platform capabilities used by teams across King.
• Design reliable APIs and reusable components that make integration straightforward for other developers.
• Improve the performance, scalability and resilience of systems operating under significant load.
• Work with internal teams to understand their needs and turn common requirements into practical platform solutions.
• Investigate production issues and improve monitoring, troubleshooting and operational reliability.
