Job summary

Jobgether, partnering with a major flight technology provider, seeks an experienced backend engineer in Europe to scale a live flight platform. You will work on APIs for search, booking, and post-booking services, with a focus on performance, caching, and reliability.

The role requires deep Python production experience and NDC familiarity, with a hands-on contributor mindset and strong API design skills. Remote-first across Europe, with hybrid options in major hubs.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience in backend/API engineering.
• Experience in flight travel domain (OTA, airline, GDS, distributor, or flight booking platform).
• Strong understanding of end-to-end flight booking lifecycle (search, booking, post-booking).
• Hands-on experience with NDC.
• Production Python development experience; other OOP languages acceptable (Java, Go, Kotlin).
• Strong API design skills for scalable, reliable services.
• Experience with distributed systems, caching, high-volume backends.
• Independent contributor mindset with technical ownership.
• Ability to work remotely from Europe and collaborate across time zones.

Responsibilities

• Scale and evolve the flight product into reliable, flexible infrastructure for partners.
• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs for flight search, booking, and post-booking functions.
• Make key architectural decisions about API design, caching, data models, performance, and reliability.
• Develop efficient caching strategies for flight offers balancing speed, cost, and freshness.
• Support booking servicing, changes, cancellations, refunds, across airlines and suppliers.
• Integrate with NDC and GDS workflows and modern airline retailing standards.
• Collaborate closely with a small team, delivering production-ready solutions.
• Improve performance, scalability, and resilience of high-traffic systems.
