Placements24 is seeking a Senior Analytical Chemist to lead a team at an environmental testing laboratory in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. You will develop, validate, and apply advanced methods for water, soil, and air samples, ensuring data integrity.

The ideal candidate has MSc/PhD in Analytical or Environmental Chemistry, 6+ years in an analytical lab, and expertise with GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-MS and QA/QC. You will mentor staff, prepare technical reports, and support accreditation.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Analytical or Environmental Chemistry with strong research background.
• Minimum 6 years in an analytical chemistry lab focusing on environmental samples.
• Experience with QA/QC, method development and validation according to ISO 17025 or EPA methods.

Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and implement advanced environmental methods for water, soil, and air samples.
• Operate and maintain GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-MS, HPLC, and spectrometers.
• Oversee sample prep, analysis, and data reporting per protocols.
• Troubleshoot analytical issues and identify root causes for corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 17025 and other regulatory standards.
• Mentor and train junior staff; prepare technical reports for clients and regulators.
