ABOUT THE ROLE – PIPING ENGINEER

We are currently seeking a Senior Piping Lead Engineer to join our Energy and Engineering Business and contribute to challenging projects across the Industrial Green Energy, Oil & Gas, Chemical & Petrochemical, and Mining Process sectors. The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in Basic Engineering, FEED, and Detailed Engineering, with a strong technical background in piping design, materials, stress analysis coordination, and multidisciplinary project execution. The role involves independently managing and coordinating piping engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring that all deliverables comply with applicable international codes and standards, project specifications, client requirements, safety criteria, and schedule and budget constraints. Working within a multidisciplinary and international consultancy environment, the Senior Piping Lead Engineer will coordinate piping engineers, designers, stress engineers, and external engineering resources, while interfacing directly with clients, suppliers, contractors, and other technical stakeholders. Depending on project requirements, the successful candidate may act as Piping Lead, Project Coordinator, or Piping Technical Focal Point, representing the Company as the Piping Knowledge Owner within project task forces and multidisciplinary engineering teams, both internally and at client premises.

Work Location:

Fano/Genova (Italy) - Hybrid

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, execute, and coordinate piping engineering activities for feasibility studies, Basic Engineering, FEED, and Detailed Engineering projects.
  • Define piping design criteria, engineering philosophies, technical requirements, and design methodologies in accordance with applicable international codes, standards, and project specifications.
  • Prepare, review, and approve piping engineering deliverables, including design criteria, piping material specifications, piping classes, valve specifications, specialty item datasheets, technical requisitions, calculation reports, and engineering lists.
  • Perform and review piping material selection based on process conditions, fluid properties, corrosion considerations, pressure-temperature ratings, and project requirements.
  • Review Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), line lists, tie-in lists, equipment datasheets, and process specifications to establish piping design requirements.
  • Develop and review plot plans, equipment layouts, piping layouts, general arrangement drawings, piping plans, sections, and isometric drawings.
  • Ensure that piping systems meet requirements for accessibility, operability, maintainability, constructability, inspection, and safe plant operation.
  • Coordinate piping interfaces with static and rotating equipment, packaged units, storage tanks, pipe racks, structures, and underground systems.
  • Identify piping systems requiring flexibility and stress analysis based on applicable codes, project criteria, operating conditions, and system configurations.
  • Prepare or review stress analysis design bases, calculation reports, stress isometrics, load summaries, and pipe support recommendations.
  • Coordinate piping stress analysis activities and verify piping flexibility, thermal expansion, vibration considerations, equipment nozzle loads, support arrangements, and displacement requirements.
  • Define technical requirements for standard and special pipe supports, coordinating their design and interfaces with civil and structural engineering teams.
  • Ensure that piping stress analysis results and support solutions are consistent with the applicable design criteria and equipment limitations.
  • Prepare and review Material Take-Offs (MTOs), Material Requisitions (MRs), and Requests for Quotation (RFQs) for piping materials, valves, specialty items, and associated components.
  • Perform technical bid evaluations, manage technical clarifications, and support the technical alignment of suppliers' proposals.
  • Review vendor drawings and documentation for valves, specialty items, expansion joints, piping components, and packaged equipment interfaces.
  • Interface with manufacturers, suppliers, licensors, contractors, and clients to resolve technical issues and ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Support procurement activities by providing technical assessments and ensuring consistency between vendor documentation and the overall piping design.
  • Coordinate piping engineering and design activities with process, mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, automation, HSE, and project engineering disciplines.
  • Participate in 3D model reviews, interdisciplinary design reviews, constructability assessments, and safety reviews.
  • Perform interdisciplinary checks to ensure consistency among piping drawings, P&IDs, equipment layouts, civil and structural documentation, and vendor deliverables.
  • Identify design conflicts, model clashes, technical risks, and interface issues, proposing safe, practical, and cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Coordinate with parallel engineering teams and other Company offices in Italy and abroad to ensure technical consistency and efficient project execution.
  • Lead, coordinate, and monitor piping engineering activities, ensuring the quality, completeness, and timely issuance of all assigned deliverables.
  • Support project planning by estimating engineering hours, defining priorities, allocating resources, and monitoring progress against project schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinate and supervise piping engineers, designers, stress engineers, and external engineering resources.
