Junior EHS Engineer: Fire & Process Safety

Job summary

AESC's new Navalmoral de la Mata gigafactory in Extremadura seeks an EHS Junior Engineer to grow within fire protection, explosion protection and process safety. You will join the EHS team from design through commissioning, collaborating with Chinese and Spanish design institutes and the GIC construction team on site.

Required are a relevant engineering degree and up to 2 years in EHS roles, with English at least B2 and Spanish C1.

Qualifications

• Recent graduate or up to 2 years of experience in EHS / PRL, fire protection, process safety or industrial engineering.
• Able to read technical drawings (AutoCAD / PDF) and comfortable using Excel to keep comment and action-tracking registers.
• English – B2 minimum (mandatory). Spanish – C1 or above, and Chinese – both a plus.
• Based in Navalmoral de la Mata or within approximately 45 minutes by car, or willing to relocate. 100% on site, including construction site work.
• Curious and quick to learn, rigorous and well organised (you follow actions through to closure), proactive and autonomous with guidance, able to communicate assertively with senior engineers and contractors, comfortable in international Chinese-Spanish teams, and with high ethical standards.

Responsibilities

• Review EHS and fire protection drawings and design documents against Spanish and EU regulations and AESC EHS standards.
• Keep the comment and corrective-action register and follow up with designers and stakeholders until design freeze.
• Support ATEX hazardous area classification and help prepare and update the Explosion Protection Document (DPCE).
• Take part in HAZID, HAZOP and LOPA studies and track their recommendations, including lithium-ion thermal runaway risks.
• Support the EHS review of gas detection, thermal runaway monitoring, infrared cameras and other safety systems.
• Follow the fire protection installation works on site: material certificates, installation quality and system commissioning.
• Help prepare the as-built documentation and support inspections until final fire regulatory acceptance.
