Amaris Consulting is seeking a Senior Tech Lead – RAG to head a cross-functional squad in Barcelona, guiding Azure-based RAG and AI solutions that power internal products. You will be the technical reference, mentor teammates, and ensure architectural excellence across cloud services.

The role requires senior-level AI/software engineering experience, strong leadership, and English-language collaboration in an international setting. Barcelona-based with remote-friendly policies.

Your mission & impact

As a Senior Tech Lead – RAG, you will lead one of our internal Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) squads within our AI Factory in Barcelona. You will be the technical reference and hands-on lead, coordinating a cross-functional squad (AI Engineers, Full Stack Developers, DevOps) to design, build, and operate Azure-based RAG and AI solutions that power internal products and services across the business.

What we’re looking for

• Senior profile – solid experience in software/AI engineering in complex environments (junior profiles will not be considered).
• Proven experience as a Technical Lead / Tech Lead for AI or software engineering squads, ideally up to 6 engineers.
• Strong expertise in Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and LLM-based solutions (prompting, orchestration, evaluation, optimization).
• Ability to define and enforce technical standards, best practices, and architecture guidelines for AI solutions.
• Experience designing and building scalable backend systems and APIs in cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure.
• Hands-on experience integrating advanced AI capabilities: RAG & LLMs (Azure OpenAI or similar)
• Speech-to-text, computer vision, and/or Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) is a strong plus
• Solid knowledge of Azure services such as: Azure Functions, App Services
• Cosmos DB or other cloud databases
• Azure Key Vault
• Azure OpenAI / cognitive services
• Experience with observability, reliability, and performance monitoring of production systems (logs, metrics, alerts, dashboards).
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, acting as the technical interface between the squad and stakeholders (Product Owner, Data Scientists, frontend teams, business).
• Comfortable working in international, multicultural environments and in English-first contexts.
• High level of ownership and autonomy, able to drive technical initiatives end-to-end and influence engineering practices.

What you will do

• Lead and coordinate a cross-functional RAG squad (up to 6 engineers), ensuring alignment on technical direction, priorities, and delivery timelines.
• Define and maintain technical standards, architecture blueprints, and best practices for RAG and AI solutions within the squad.
• Design and oversee the development of scalable backend systems and APIs that support AI products on Azure.
• Architect and validate cloud-based AI solutions leveraging Microsoft technologies: Azure Functions, App Services, Cosmos DB, Azure Key Vault, Azure OpenAI, and related services.
• Drive the integration of advanced AI capabilities into internal products: RAG-based assistants and knowledge systems
• LLM-powered features
• (Optionally) speech-to-text, computer vision, IDP components
• Conduct code reviews, technical mentoring, and upskilling of squad members, ensuring high engineering standards.
• Act as the technical point of contact for the squad, collaborating closely with Product Owners, Data Scientists, frontend developers, and business stakeholders.
• Define and monitor system performance, reliability, and observability standards, ensuring high availability of AI deployments.
• Maintain a strong awareness of market trends in Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, and prompt engineering, and translate them into concrete squad initiatives and roadmap items.
• Contribute to the delivery of AI products within the axapartners.ai program, ensuring value for internal users and business teams.

Languages

• English: Mandatory.
• Spanish: Strongly preferred (almost a must) for day-to-day collaboration in Barcelona.
• French: Nice to have, as many stakeholders operate in a French-speaking environment.
