Job summary

CNAG in Barcelona, Spain, is seeking an IT Support & Operations Technician to join the IT Department. The role combines hands-on end-user IT support with first-level infrastructure operations for a state-of-the-art data centre and an HPC cluster.

You will assist with user provisioning, monitor backups, and maintain documentation while ensuring secure, reliable IT services for CNAG researchers and staff.

Qualifications

• Education or training in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering or related field.
• Previous IT support experience (helpdesk or end-user computing).
• Knowledge of Windows, macOS and Linux operating systems.
• Knowledge of LAN, Wi‑Fi and VPN technologies and troubleshooting.
• Experience installing and maintaining computers, peripherals and corporate software.
• Good organisational skills and ability to follow procedures.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills for end users.
• Attention to detail in ticket records and documentation.
• Security awareness and access control practices.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and escalate when needed.
• Experience with backup operations and tape libraries.
• Familiarity with HPC and scientific computing infrastructure.
• Experience with IT monitoring tools and infrastructure operations.
• Knowledge of user account administration and lifecycle management.
• Catalan and English language skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical end-user IT support and diagnose hardware/software issues.
• Install, configure and maintain Windows, macOS and Linux desktops and laptops.
• Install and maintain corporate software and tools (Microsoft 365, antivirus, VPN client).
• Troubleshoot LAN, Wi‑Fi and VPN connectivity issues.
• Manage departmental printers and peripherals; support meeting rooms and IT tools.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth end-user computing.
• Perform routine backup checks and predefined backup tasks.
• Monitor HPC cluster operational status and perform first-level recovery actions as documented.
• Maintain user accounts during onboarding and offboarding.
