Job summary

Softlanding is seeking an experienced Business Data Analyst to bridge business stakeholders and data/engineering teams within the Data Platform. The role focuses on translating business needs, enabling FP&A and accounting data projects, and driving agile delivery across the organization.

The ideal candidate will have strong data literacy, proficiency in Python and SQL, and the ability to act as deputy Product Owner while promoting data-driven decision making.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience as a Business Data Analyst or Business Analyst.
• Experience in FP&A or accounting data projects.

Role description

We are looking for an experienced Business Data Analyst to join our Data Platform team. The successful candidate will act as a key link between business stakeholders and technical teams, translating business needs into clear requirements and actionable technical solutions.

This role combines business analysis, data expertise, and product-oriented thinking. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of business processes, particularly in Accounting and Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), and the ability to drive delivery within an Agile environment.

The candidate will also act as a Data Platform evangelist within the organization, supporting adoption and continuous improvement while assuming deputy Product Owner responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead business requirements gathering, analysis, and documentation activities.
• Write, manage, and refine user stories, ensuring requirements are clear, complete, and actionable for engineering teams.
• Lead user story refinement and solution design discussions, bridging business needs and technical implementation.
• Develop small prototypes, mock-ups, and proof-of-concept solutions to support requirements clarification and refinement.
• Collaborate closely with business stakeholders throughout the solution acceptance phase to ensure successful delivery and alignment with expectations.
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications and communicate them effectively to data engineers and other technical team members.
• Proactively capture and analyze business processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend enhancements to the Data Platform.
• Act as a Data Platform evangelist, promoting adoption, best practices, and awareness across the organization.
• Support Product Owner activities, including prioritization, backlog refinement, and delivery coordination, acting as deputy Product Owner when required.
• Contribute to Agile ceremonies and foster collaboration across business and technical teams.
• Support data-driven decision-making through advanced data analysis and insights.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Professional Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Business Data Analyst or Business Analyst.
• Background in Management is highly valued.
• Previous experience working on data projects within Accounting and Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) domains.
• Experience working within Agile teams.

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of data architecture and data modelling principles.
• Proficiency in Python for data analysis and processing.
• Expert-level SQL and data analysis skills.
• Understanding of REST and SOAP APIs, including the ability to read and interpret technical specifications.
• Previous experience in AI, Generative AI, or Machine Learning projects is highly valued.
