Accessiway is seeking a Backend Developer (Mid / Senior) to design and build scalable backend systems that power digital accessibility worldwide. You will work in a hybrid setup with remote work and on-site presence in Turin, Italy, contributing to Lambda, ECS, REST APIs, and data storage strategies while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years of Node.js experience, fluent TypeScript, strong AWS knowledge, and a passion for robust architectures.

Your Mission at Accessiway

Taking full ownership of your role, you will participate in the end-to-end design and delivery of high-quality backend services, focusing on:

• Backend Engineering: Building and maintaining Lambda functions, ECS-hosted services, and REST APIs behind API Gateway using TypeScript as your primary language - keeping systems reliable, observable, and easy to evolve.
• Event-Driven Architecture: Designing asynchronous workflows with SNS and SQS to handle audit results, trigger notifications, and integrate with external services, mastering idempotency, retries, and failure modes.
• Container & Cloud Workloads: Managing Docker containers and deploying services via ECS/ECR, configuring task definitions, and overseeing image lifecycles under real-world traffic.
• Data & Storage Management: Navigating smoothly between Aurora PostgreSQL and DynamoDB, leading schema design, migrations, query optimization, and knowing exactly when to leverage relational vs. NoSQL paradigms.
• Infrastructure Evolution: Contributing to our AWS CDK stacks (TypeScript) as you settle in, growing your skills in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) alongside core development.

What we're looking for in you

• 3+ years of backend experience: Proven track record of shipping production-ready Node.js services and understanding what reliable, maintainable backend systems require.
• Fluent TypeScript (server-side): Writing clean, well-typed async code, maintaining architecture sanity, and keeping codebases scalable as they grow.
• AWS Expertise: Hands-on experience with core cloud services (Lambda, SQS/SNS, ECS, API Gateway, RDS/DynamoDB).
• Solid Database Foundations: Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
• Comfort with Complexity: Energized by technical challenges - distributed systems, async messaging, and complex integrations don't intimidate you.
• Ownership Mindset: Proactive attitude to catch problems before they turn into fires, get things done, and take pride in what you ship.
• Work eligibility: As this is a fully remote position, we can only employ candidates in countries where we have a legal entity. For this role, that means we can consider candidates who are based in and already legally authorised to work in one of the following countries: Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Spain or Portugal. We're not able to provide visa sponsorship or relocation for this role.

Extra Bonus Points if:

• You are curious about cloud infrastructure and eager to expand into Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK in TypeScript.
• You have hands-on experience or familiarity with accessibility testing tools (such as Lighthouse or Axe).
