Job summary

Mercor is seeking native Telugu speakers to join a data annotation project focused on Telugu documents. You will identify page regions, bound them, and ensure precise transcription of Telugu script across complex layouts including multi-column pages and handwritten content.

The role emphasizes accuracy over speed, with peer review by a Telugu expert. You will also capture metadata and relationships between regions, contributing to a diverse corpus for training document AI.

Qualifications

• Native Telugu speaker with full command of the script and orthography.
• Experience in annotation, transcription, localization, or language data review is preferred.
• You are exact and prioritize character-level accuracy and consistent taxonomy.

Responsibilities

• Source publicly accessible Telugu PDFs containing at least one multimodal element and record where you obtained it.
• Annotate structure: bound every meaningful region (title, heading, paragraph, list, table, figure, caption, formula, question, answer field) and assign a type and reading-order index.
• Record relationships: link each region to the figure or table it belongs to through a parent component identifier.
• Transcribe faithfully: reproduce all text exactly as it appears in Telugu script, flagging illegible regions.
• Capture page metadata: language, document type, source, page dimensions, and flags for tables, formulas and handwriting.
• Review a colleague's work: every task is reviewed end to end by a second Telugu expert.
